The James Bynum Nurturing Legacy Scholarship is being created to honor our grandfather's legacy and the values he lived by: hard work, resilience, groundedness, and a commitment to others.
Through educational opportunity, we hope to support Kennesaw State University students who demonstrate those same qualities and are determined to make a positive impact in their communities.
Family note: James Bynum was born in 1928 in Charleston, Missouri, the son of Mattie Batts and Sterling Bynum. He went on to raise fifteen children — a full house, and a full life. He is an avid Cubs fan, and happiest with a rod in hand, out hunting, or working in the garden. When the day’s work is done, you’ll often find him watching the old westerns he simply calls “the cowboys.” James is also an incredibly funny storyteller — the kind who can turn an ordinary afternoon into something you’ll remember for years.
The James Bynum Nurturing Legacy Scholarship’s purpose is to nurture the brightest students' futures, who persevere through obstacles and continue to face the challenges of life ahead, while committing to serving their communities.
The scholarship is intended for students whose academic dedication and character reflect the legacy it celebrates. This year, one dedicated student will receive $1,000 to assist with their educational journey.
